Aren’t heist movies mammoth? Warm and familiar like a comfy passe armchair, they are one of the oldest and (if done well) most delicious film genres around. You can sit wait on at the movie theatre with your popcorn in one hand or at home in front of the TV with a beer, pleasurable in the knowledge that some craggy, world weary weak thief plot on retirement will be persuaded to do one last job, with a rookie understudy whom he doesn’t trust, on a job which you unbiased know wont go as smoothly as planned.

The Glean is no different in that respect in that it stars Robert De Niro as a craggy traditional world weary thief, persuaded to prefer on one last high risk job before retiring. Ed Norton plays the rookie understudy scamming his employers by posing as Brian, a man with a disability and learning difficulties. Of course Robert De Niro’s character Gash, always works alone and doesn’t trust anybody but he is persuaded by his camp bloated obsolete fence, Max (Marlon Brando) to work with Jack (Ed Norton) . You examine Max (Brando) is in up to his eyeballs in gambling debts and is likely to be forcibly shuffled off this mortal coil unless he comes up with the money, Jack (Norton) is working on the inside and Gash (De Niro) is the only man with the knowledge and the skills to collect the job done.

Like most heist movies it’s a bit of a listless burn get up, it’s all about building up the tension until showtime. Inevitably there are a few scares along the draw and Director Frank Oz (yes that’s true Yoda, or at least the speak of Yoda) does a decent job in building up the tension. Of course one of the mountainous draws of this movie is Frank Oz’s coup in getting Brando, De Niro and Norton all on conceal at the same time in the same movie. Brando was in his day was considered to be the world’s greatest living actor, a mantle De Niro has carried for the past 20/25 years. Edward Norton is not far slack and is generally considered by many (including myself) to be the greatest actor of his generation on the succor of colossal films (American History X, Fight Club) and stout performances (Primal Anxiety, Rounders, Keeping The Faith, The People Versus Larry Flynt, Everybody Says I Esteem You) . Robert De Niro is of course reliably superior but not at his shimmering best and it is Ed Norton in the dual role of Jack and Brian who has the meatiest piece and adds some energy and vitality to the whole production. Marlon Brando’s role however, is something of an oddity. It’s not distinguished more than a cameo and its something that he could do in his sleep, which is unprejudiced as well because it looks like that’s exactly what he did.

If there are any criticisms to be levelled at The Bag it has to be on the basis that it really is a by the numbers crime caper and lacks none of the originality or vitality of something like Reservoir Dogs and nor does it really prefer pudgy advantage of its AAA list cast. The opening sequences whilst inviting, perhaps lack the action and intensity you might wish, although they do encourage as an insight into Jack’s MO (he always works outside the country, he always plans meticulously, doesn’t rob chances and is never greedy) . That said The Salvage is scrumptious first and foremost for its genuine cast and the opportunity to seek them fragment camouflage time. Secondly the last forty minutes of the movie where we eventually win to gape the heist are excellent; the heist is sizable edge of your seat stuff and there are plenty of unexpected twists and turns and an proper climax. Ultimately though, you are left with the feeling that you’ve seen this all before and done better. It’s more like that dependable frail arm chair, warm and comfortable rather than modern and intelligent. That said it’s an appetizing chronicle. Sound familiar? Assign for a raze game twist or two THE Acquire is exquisite grand the same heist movie you’ve seen time and again. It’s a strong enough memoir that doesn’t stray too far at all from the tried and good. What sets this movie apart is its cast. To say THE Come By is actor rich is an understatement. Its three leads – Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro, and Ed Norton – have all been hailed the greatest actors of their generation. Brando plays the fence, De Niro the mature pro who wants to pull off one last job before calling it quits, and Norton the neophyte looking for respect. Director Frank Oz wisely highlights characters and the `job’ intrudes only when important. With a different cast I probably wouldn’t have liked this one nearly as worthy as I did, but Brando, De Niro, and Norton are all on their game and a joy to glance.

The special features includes trailers, a short `making of’ feature, a commentary track with Oz and cinematographer Buy Hahn and three or four unused scenes, one of which features Brando and De Niro improvising a scene. The track lasts about four minutes and shows the two going through the same little or so long bit of business three times. I’ve never seen two actors of this caliber building a scene before, and it’s piquant to seek them hit the same marks – Will you do it? , six million, I always pay your elegant – while shading each occupy differently. It’s my popular four minutes on the dvd.

What the heck, heist movies have been done but they’re fun. The characters in this movie are layered and engrossing. A strong recommendation for THE Secure.

I hardly ever write reviews, but I am writing in hopes that someone in power at Anchor Bay might read this. I have bought many, many Anchor Bay/Starz products over the years and have always been a gigantic fan. But with Masters of Fright Season 2, a nearly $70 box position on Amazon, I feel completely ripped off.

Ok, unlike the other reviewers I have no asthetic gripes with this packaging. I always occupy the DVDs out of wierd packaging and effect them in something that fits the shelf anyway. However, I received this station yesterday, and it unprejudiced made me sunless. The DVDs are floating around completely unprotected inside the “skull” which means every single one of them is scratched. A few of them are badly scratched all over, while ALL of them have circular scratches (typically the worst kind of scratches) around the the entire outer half-inch or so of the disc. Additionally, instead of including all of the individual episode discs like the last box place, some of the discs are double sided with an episode on each side! Why? So the manufacturer could reduce some more corners on an already horribly place together dwelling?

I foolishly assumed that, as with the season one area, this box would possess someting extra that was not available in the individual episode DVDs. It does not. So, if you have the individual episode DVDs, I would recommend sticking with those. However, if you don’t mind spending intention too mighty money for a pile of pre-scratched, dual-sided DVDs then this box position is the design to go. Not only do you not obtain anything extra, you secure something far, far less for your money this time around. Shame on you Anchor Bay. I hope everyone returns these as I understanding to do.

The fact that I am able to type a review here at Amazon for The Guild is kind of unbelievable. Considering this, the first season, was funded by Felicia Day with donations/help from the audience and considering how unlikely such a collaboration is, it’s astonishing that the indicate has become such a hit, spawning additional seasons and a more mainstream acceptance. Not that it should be very surprising since it’s probably one of the funniest and heartfelt shows I’ve seen on either the web or TV.

Stepping wait on a bit, The Guild is a note about…well, an online guild of friends who live in the local residence but only know each other through their online alter-egos. Cyd/Codex (Felicia Day) is struggling with what appears to be an addiction to their fresh MMO, dealing with a psychiatrist who hangs up on her and a gnome warlock who shows up at her front door, thinking they are romantically eager.

What works for The Guild is the fact that the characters are so gleaming and played pitch perfectly by the entire cast. Yes, they verge on walking stereotypes, but the hilartiy and the esteem for these people (some of the kinds of people I know personally) gives the point to a worthy needed heart. What’s colossal is that, while a gaming geek will rep the most enjoyment out of the point to, I have shown this to friends who assume gaming is petite to Rock Band and they, too, kept coming wait on, week after week, to behold it.

You can go concept these shows online, peaceful, either via the website, MSN or Xbox Live. I’m personally satisfied that there’s now another option in this Amazon queer. Give it a chance. I bet you’ll approach aid laughing.

If you like serial killers, buckets of blood and screaming blondes in your dread movies, don’t sight “The Seek.” As a scare movie, it will be too subtle, too still, and too corpulent of shiny questions about life and death.

There are only a couple of staunch “alarm” moments in here, where things gaze grotesque. Most of the time, it’s psychological in nature; at one point, we hear that suicides are doomed to disclose their deaths — it’s horrifying enough to peep someone killing themselves, but doing it over and over? Even worse, we gape this in action.

And the Pang Bros. handle this wonderfully. Many of the ghosts appear and vanish rapidly, giving a shock to the audience; at other times, they gape the changes that look brings to Mun’s life. But at the same time, the Bros. add a softer side to this movie, such as Ling’s reconciliation with her mother. It’s a credit to the Bros. that this is touching, not syrupy.

A lot of the impact of the film can be credited to Lee and Chou. Lee especially, for showing a range of emotions, including joy, inconvenience, hysteria and still acceptance. Boyishly comely Chou balances out Mun in a very believable, by merely being a pillar of strength and believing her seemingly crazy stories. The only flaw is that he seems to topple for her too fleet.

The DVD also comes with a very insightful featurette, which sheds a lot of light on the film’s background and production. The actors talk about their characters, the directors talk about creating gas explosions and ghosts. And we hear from the people whose stories inspired the ghosts in this film, such as the guy standing in the highway.

With capable acting and a really chilling script, “The Inspect” is one of the rarest kinds of terror — the kind that horrifies the mind, rather than the stomach. Mesmerizing and really spooky.

I cherish being alarmed. I started watching panic movies as far relieve as 4 years musty. I even made it a point to rent every terror movie at both of my local video stores. And if a movie gave me nightmares for 2 days, I wanted to gain one that would obtain it 3. It could’ve been anything. Later on I’d realise I was exposed not only from the standard American fright legends like Romero to Raimi, but also Bava and Argento from Italy and of course Hitchcock.

While that was a respectable long hasten, I became desensitised at a fairly early age by slasher and/or gore films. Only few films would leave lasting impressions on my psyche. Then I came across asian alarm. Japanese staples like Ringu and Ju On were instantly in a different league. The off kilter timing and sincerity in telling a chronicle wouldn’t impartial apprehension the fairly jaded alarm movie fan in me, it would shake every fibre of my being. The paranoia I felt after seeing movies like Begotten or Silence of the Lambs or even the last scene in Blair Witch could not compare to the atmosphere built by the aforementioned movies. With Asia restoring my faith in the genre, I branched out even further. And this is where The Observe comes in.

The Notice is the scariest movie I’ve ever seen in my life. Short of spoilers, that’s the best description I can give. For what it is, it’s the perfect movie in it’s genre. It literally immerses you into the atmosphere and spits you out without a moment’s scrutinize. I personally felt like a deer in headlights each time, stronger than the last. And when it’s all over, life itself can feel like a nightmare. At least for a while. I no longer admire being unnerved. I am simply troubled.

Watch this movie at 2 in the morning alone with the lights off.

In one of his best movies, Elvis Presley plays a heavenly, bonafide jerk who, on route to his next job, accidentally encounters Barbara Stanwyck, her even jerkier husband, and her radiant step-daughter (Joan Freeman) . Maggie (Stanwyck) decides to let Elvis become her dying carnival’s roustabout, but he does more. When Elvis sings, well, you know what happens! The carnival begins to attract attention and the money starts rolling in. But when Elvis is offered a bigger salary by another carnie, he is torn between the prospects of a better life and his loyalty to Stanwyck, and particularly, her step-daughter. Every song in the film is “a astounding, extraordinary, incredible, fantastic” experience. Elvis’s fun rockin’ with “Poision Ivy League” to his romantic wooing of Freeman in a ferris wheel, to the upbeat “It’s Carnival Time” the spacious production number, “Runt Egypt”, and the final, memorable number, “And The Whole World’s Gonna Be Mine”. And Stanwyck is unprejudiced stout as the good-hearted carnie whom Elvis learns to trust. You’ll have fun with this movie or capture it for the Elvis fan in your family… “be a substantial shot for a dollar, it’s Carnival Time!”

Although rather formulaic, Roustabout is one of Elvis’ better outings. I really treasure this film. I have to disagree with the reviewer who thinks the songs were forgettable. I found them quite memorable and witty. Example: Poison Ivy League, boys in that Ivy League, give me an itch — those “sons of the rich.” Granted, the song needs to be understood within the context of the movie, but for a 1964 Elvis film that’s rather tongue in cheek! Roustabout — “I’m unbiased a Roustabout, drifting from town to town, no job can contain me down…” It’s a tall number that really introduces us to Elvis’ free-wheeling character (a space up for the movie position) And of course who can forget “Petite Eva.” Minute Eva came out struttin wearin nuttin but a button and bow… It’s an early favorite 50s tune that meshed within the Carny atmosphere of the film. And even It’s Carnival Time although very simplistic is a catchy cramped tune. Stanwyck is substantial and so is Leif Ericson, playing a doubting dolting father-type, although I honest don’t know how Elvis can punch him out one diminutive and then suddenly they’re pals the next (but that’s formula) . Explore it’s fun, the tunes are peppy, he gets the girl what more can you glean outta of an Elvis 60s movie!

This considerable documentary tells this epic, based on the diaries and letters from those few committed Westerners. Most of them were missionaries and the one woman, Minnie Vautrin, ran a girls’ college. There was also a German businessman who was a Nazi. In addition to interviews with some survivors, as well as historical footage, the filmmaker ragged a staged reading of the diaries and letters of these Westerners by a variety of professional actors as a contrivance to scream this memoir. Woody Harrelson is one of these actors as well as Mariel Hemmingway. I, like many other Westerners, first heard of the Rape of Nanjing ten years ago when Iris Chang released her book Rape of Nanking. I, of course, knew that Japan had been at war with China and that the Japanese Imperial Army had done a number of ghastly things in China, but it was this book that really opened my eyes to what Japan did in China and had a major enough carry out on me to gain me dedicate my life to the contemplate of Japanese and Chinese history, literature, and film. Instead of objective stringing together news footage, photos, and films of the period, Leonsis and the directors Gutenberg and Dan Sturman casted various American and international actors, including Mariel Hemmingway, Woody Harrelson, Jürgen Prochnow, and Michelle Krusiec, to give relate to a number of foreign missionaries, businessmen, and doctors who suffered through the Japanese attack upon Nanjing, but did their best to protect the Chinese citizens and military deserters from the brutality of the Japanese soldiers. Through their roles of reading the diaries of the missionaries George Fitch, Minnie Vautrin, and John Magee, the doctor Bob Wilson, and the Nazi businessman John Rabe, the actors give hiss to these broad people who risked their very lives to achieve the people of the foreign country that had become their home. Through their words, and the gargantuan number of photos and films, the viewer can vicariously experience the travesties they experienced which would shorten all of their lives after the left China.

Nanking is of course quite graphic in its detailing of the suffering of the Chinese people at the hands up the Japanese soldiers, but it also shows the strength of what a few can do against the oppression of many. A splendid albeit horrifying film, it should be added to the libraries of those alive to in history and the bitter relationship between China and Japan

This 30th anniversary special edition might have been re-thought when John Travolta decided NOT to be in the documentary. There have been Great better retrospectives on TV . The shrimp share on the Music which DOES feature novel interviews with Barry and Robin Gibb…is okay but stout time redundant…and the Tedious THE MUSIC on VH1 which was set in excerpt in the 25th Anniversary Edition would have been Great better than all the useless junk on this edition. This was an famous ( I know that is an overused word) movie for my generation …with titanic themes of growing up, friendship, career, family,and though-provoking out…among others..and the special features of this edition carve it all down to clothes and dance steps…THOSE THINGS didn’t invent this movie well-known…they missed the boat entirely.

Unfairly dismissed by many viewers today as a relic of the disco era, “Saturday Night Fever” should more properly be remembered as the classic coming-of-age fable in which John Travolta exploded onto the great conceal. The 25th Anniversary edition DVD offers home viewers a immense video and sound transfer. In yet another Japanese fear remake, One Missed Call is quite ordinary. It’s in the same mold as The Grudge and The Ring, with thrills here and there – mostly of the quiet-then-LOUD variety, a few advantageous shock scenes – the creepy visions each victim has, and a touch of ridiculousness – the other 75% of the movie.

Essentially, the movie’s location breaks down as a Final Destination meets Alltel’s “My Circle 5″ campaign. When a person gets a voicemail – the call is suspiciously absent – they hear their enjoy drawl moments before death. To top it all off, the voicemail is time-date stamped at the time of death. So, if there is a voicemail with a date of 2045, then it’s certain for you to laugh in the face of the dismay and concern – like I did the entire movie.

The main character in the movie, Beth Raymond (Shannyn Sossamon), has a collection of friends who one-by-one have received a voicemail letting them know that death is on the device. It begins with a nurse – who happens to be the sister of Jack Andrews (Edward Burns), a detective helping Beth solve the mysterious voicemails, and the novel victim of the insidious killer (1) . After that, the chain of events has begun. Each death shown on veil is borderline hilarious. At first an arbitrary girl and her wearisome cat go scuba diving without gear in a backyard pool (2), then a grotesque blonde gets sent into orbit by a fascinating converse (3), followed by a grungy moron who quick learns why construction sites require hardhats (4), and finally a terrible foreign actress who receives a rear-naked chokehold from one of the ghostly, wicked jujitsu-practicing killers (5) . In each space, the victim receives a notification via voicemail a few days prior to death, giving them time to hallucinate, and generally have psychotic visions of dreary people and giant millipedes. If the call and knowledge of an impending death wasn’t enough, each victim gets taunted until their last itsy-bitsy and is inexplicably gagged by a expansive portion of candy post-death (similar to the murders in Silence of the Lambs) . Well, all is noble until Beth receives the inevitable call; then her search for the respond becomes extremely critical.

Will Beth and Jack figure it out in time to build Beth’s life? You betcha, and it’s completely ridiculous as the finale is reached, an inordinate amount of twists are shoved in, and absolutely no answers are gained.

There are enough downfalls to this movie that I won’t raze time – here’s a bullet list:

-It’s not scary, unless you’re a unnerved 6-year traditional Japanese girl.

-It has a funny state that requires not only suspension of disbelief, but also a microscopic bit of retardation in order to truly become engrossed.

-One of the scenes of a green, “scary” baby at the demolish is reminiscent of the B-movie anxiety classic Ghoulies.

-From beginning to demolish, the movie fails on the dread genre formula, where the person wronged is vindicated and then the epic reaches a resolution.

-It’s almost guaranteed that each viewer will leave the movie hating themself unprejudiced a minute bit for watching yet another Japanese apprehension flick adaptation that failed to vow.

-Each generous looking college-aged student has the same ringtone. In a world of ubiquitous ringtones and downloads, especially amongst college students, to hear the steady same monophonic ringtone over and over is absurd.

-The actors, minus Sossamon, are all fairly wooden, and bland, as if they attended the William Shatner school of acting.

-There is a barely connected, ludicrous subplot of a tremulous minute girl who is clearly a ripoff from Poltergeist.

-The traumatic childhood experience suffered by Beth is a forced and superflous, and has absolutely no right point.

If you, like me, savor watching a preposterous dread movie and making jokes all throughout, then this is the upright one for you. If you are looking for a an true scare movie that may unbiased anxiety you, skip it.

Should we talk about this again? …………This movie was cross. It’s called a panic movie but I was laughing during most of it. The only time I was actually a bit creeped out was when I checked my phone and it said that I have One Missed Call. I esteem the new. I definitely didn’t demand to be any well-behaved but once in a while everybody wants to eye a movie on a long Saturday afternoon that they don’t have to mediate or talk about ever again. But in the waste too many words came out of it. I devour suitable movies but I can also relish obvious awful movies that are agreeable for passing time but ultimately this offers me one missed call too many.

Supporting plays include Meagan Respectable (too short of scene), Ray Wise and Azura Skye.

Production accomplish is generally effective; however, the film’s rep generally is of the garden-variety anxiety type in which one can easily dispute by the music when something awful is going to happen.

I always try to refrain from bashing any movie honest because I understand that a lot of pain goes into making even the worst movie. I found myself bored most of the movie and again amused at the “scary” parts because of how ancient it is.
