It’s always a pleasure when the B-movies of our childhood are released onto DVD. We don’t stare these itsy-bitsy gems anymore on television (even though we have over 100 channels), mainly, I consider, because they are in dusky and white and this is a color TV world.
But these are the films we stayed up on countless Saturday nights to stare and they remain with us psychotronic fans as a most suitable memory. This MGM Midnite Movies entry is a perfect example, as we gather that we relish these films all over again. Now, if we can only gather the kids to sit aloof for murky and white.
The first movie “The Monster That Challenged the World” (1957) is an intelligently notion out itsy-bitsy recount. Mysterious disappearances are occurring in the Salton Sea. Tim Holt (Remember him from “adore of the Sierra Madre”? ) and scientist Hans Conreid (Uncle Tounoose from “Accomplish Room for Daddy”) investigate and gawk that an earthquake has freed prehistoric mollusks. If not stopped, they will overrun the environment. The movie moves at a brisk poke and has several great chills. Perceive for character actor Milton Parsons in a minute role as the county archivist.

The acting is also solid, with Thompson, Dabbs Greer, and Ray “Smash” Corrigan in the monster suit. It may be of some interest that the film was remade by Ridley Scott in a fashion as “Alien.”

THE SHOW:
Television is very mighty like movies in that shows are constantly being churned out, but truly there are only a few beneficial gems out there. Scrubs may be one of the best comedies ever to grace the conceal. The characters are all relatable and the stories touch incredibly deep. Better yet is that it’s a sitcom that creates narrative arcs that expand season to season. I abominate episodic television where each episode is a unusual account and whatever happened last week really doesn’t matter to what happens this week. Scrubs is different, it is able to make incredibly deep characters and touching stories while stringing it all together with comedic charm. I’ve been a Scrubs fan from the beginning and season six sets everything up for the final season to one of the best shows I have ever watched.

If you’re reading this review I’m going to prefer that you too are a Scrubs fanatic who has been watching since the beginning. I really don’t want to do a synopsis of the season, but I’ll state up what you can question if you haven’t seen the season yet. J.D and Elliot become torn apart into their maintain separate relationships. J.D accidentally gets a girl pregnant, which was the cliffhanger from season 5. Now J.D must face up to his responsibility even though he may not like the woman who is the mother of his child. Elliot becomes engaged with Keith but seriously doubts whether or not if she loves him. All the while there are the countless side stories with the other characters that you will need to gaze the season to experience. Stand out episodes from this season are of course the “My Musical” episode and the “Their Yarn” episode.
The “My Musical” episode is absolutely a delight mostly because throughout the series the point to has done quite a few musical numbers and of course Scrubs is known for its gigantic exhaust of music at the kill of the episodes. The creators hired trusty Broadway choreographers and songwriters to craft the note together and created one memorable episode. The “Their Legend” episode is a continuation of episodes that the present does each season where we leave the narration of J.D and notice into the mind of one of the side characters. However in this one episode we delve into what the creators call “the third tier” of side characters like Ted and Todd.

I consider what a lot of people may glimpse is that this season felt like it hit a snag halfway through and a lot of people got the impression that this was the final season. In actuality the creators concept this was indeed the final season. We even had an episode that was nothing but a clip-show and we even got an instance where we almost learn the Janitor’s name. For anyone who doesn’t know, it’s always been said that once we learn the Janitor’s name that means the present would arrive to an waste. That’s also why a major supporting character dies. It really felt like they were closing up shop, but when NBC announced they would maintain them for one more season they had to launch up the storylines again.
In actuality I felt like the season held up incredibly well despite the little snag midseason. In no plan has the note lost its touch and in no arrangement has the writing ever gotten indolent or tiring,. Scrubs has been constantly consuming headstrong through all its seasons and I am incredibly dismal that season 7 will be the last one. I’ve never encountered a present where I could report real-life situations to the situations the characters are experiencing in the prove. Never have I seen a note that could have me laugh and weep at the same time within the same episode. Scrubs has continually been that breath of current air on primetime network television and it’s shadowy that the note could have potentially bustle for a bit longer despite all the studio quarrels. Scrubs does air on NBC but it’s produced by Buena Vista, a Disney company which would manufacture one demand why it doesn’t air on ABC where it belongs. At least we win a final season so the writers can wrap up the series well.

Making Of: “My Musical”:
This is a titanic slight gradual the scenes study at the musical episode. It has interviews with all the main cast members plus all the people brought in to turn the world of Scrubs into a musical.

If you have the other Scrubs seasons on DVD then you know “Keeps Talking” feature where a cast member sits down for a dinky one on one interview. Reyes talks mostly about her memories of the prove and a shrimp bit about the musical episode.
Deleted Scenes:
The deleted scenes are appealing because the explain you the aired version of a scene then display you the modern prick of it. Most of the scenes unbiased have added dialogue that clutters a bit or maybe it was slice for time.
Alternate Lines:

Audio Commentaries:
This season gives us audio commentaries for each episode and they are enormous. There is a lot of talking about casting and honest the overall execution of the point to. You’ll hear some stuff about choices made with the characters and overall it’s expansive to eye every episode has a commentary now with various cast and crew.
The Third Tier:
A special feature that is not listed on the abet of the box is a wintry one. Bill Lawrence talks about all the side characters that obtain up the third tier. These characters include Ted, Todd, Doug, Lloyd, etc. They talk about how the characters have been stunning fleshed out and how they worship to continue to give them side stories.
The Debra & Stephanie Show:
This is another special feature that isn’t labeled on the benefit of the box, and no this isn’t about the girl names that Dr. Cox calls J.D. This exiguous featurette sits down and talks with the writer of the musical episode and the actress who portrays the patient who hears everyone singing in her head. I assume it adds a cramped too considerable since we’ve already heard plenty about the musical episode already.
Easter Egg:
There is a hidden feature on the first menu page of the special features menu on disc three. Glimpse for the cherries and try to highlight them with your cursor. It’s basically Bill Lawrence numbering a bunch of potential spoilers for season 7 and then after it all he says “I guarantee 4 of what I said are fair”. So, if you don’t want potential spoilers then don’t seek.
Okay, to sum up my swear here. Why would Buena Vista impartial copy and paste the special features list when there is in fact no Outtakes feature. They also failed to list two special features that are actually on the disc. So, they listed one feature that isn’t on and failed to list two features that are on. This is a sizable mistake and someone should be fired because of it.
VIDEO:
Scrubs is a demonstrate that detached hasn’t made the switch to widescreen, but it’s okay. The 4:3 aspect ratio is handsome profitable. The Scrubs DVD’s don’t have the most vibrant transfers, but they are definitely better than what you gawk when they broadcast.
AUDIO:
The 5.1 track is tremendous because you gather all those ambient hospital sounds and it makes it feel like you’re in the room with the characters. The 5.1 mix is also spacious for all the music in the display.
BOTTOM LINE:
Buena Vista screwed up enormous time with the listing of the special features on the package, but otherwise this is a must bear site. I care for the amount of special features there are, but I fair despise that they screwed up in listing them. Scrubs fans should go out and remove it good now. I’m going to miss this reveal a lot, and it’s going to be bittersweet when it comes time to review the final season on DVD next May.
The decline began with Season Five and only worsened with Season Six. What extinct to be about silly situations has gotten too wrapped up in storylines that center around interpersonal melodrama. Scrubs is not ER, nor should it attempt to emulate that formula. The gags are stereotyped around flat characterizations. The ironic thing is that the writers are attempting to add character depth, but that has never been the focal point of the series. JD’s internal monologues are unruffled a clever narration design, but don’t put a question to many laughs from this season. In my notion, the first four seasons rule supreme. These last two seasons, however, lack the clever creativity of the previous seasons. They have become gimmicky.

I have always really liked this movie since it came out in 1973. I have watched it countless times through the years on TV, but haven’t seen it for a while on TV so I picked it up on DVD. Although the DVD doesn’t offer a lot of features, the record quality is valid and it’s presented in it’s unique cinemascope format. This was one of the higher budget “blaxploitation” flicks from the ’70s. Seeing it as a kid I understanding it was the coolest movie. Now that I am a lot older, it’s aloof wintry, but in a campy/fun procedure. The area consists of a government agent named Cleopatra Jones (Tamara Dobson) who is hired to rid the US of drugs. She goes after one of the “Queenpins” of the drug trade called Mommy, played by Shelley Winters. The one thing I never forgot about this movie was Cleopatra’s kickin’ Corvette complete with a cassette deck, which was really high-end at the time! (Most cars had 8-track players) Along with this was her funky fashions! If you like the ’70s action genre, this is a gargantuan addition to your library.
Tamara Dobson was fabulously stylish, sexy, and brilliant in her role as Cleopatra Jones, the Karate/Kung Fu kicking United States Special Government Agent (“jurisdiction from Turkey to Watts Tower baby”) who battles Drug Lord Mommy (Shelly Winters) . Cleo ruffles Mommy’s feathers by burning her Turkish poppy field that has a street value of $30 million. Mommy retaliates by getting her abominable cop friends to bust the B&S House which is hurry by Cleo’s boyfriend Rueben (Bernie Casey) . The B&S House helps local drug addicts kick the habit. The B&S House staff have a Murky Panther Party mentality.

To add action and humor to the movie is Mommy’s queer crew of blissful beauties that cater to her every whim; clutsy henchmen; Pusher Doodlebug (Antonio Fargas, best known from “Starsky & Hutch”) . Dobson portrayed a strong sunless woman with a obvious character. Outside of driving the James Bond type Corvette complete with phone, personalized plates, government issued weapons concealed in the door and a top that automatically raised (awesome in 1973) to accomodate Dobson’s 6 foot, 2 scoot height… she displayed motor bike riding skills and a limited bi-lingual capabilities that must have been needed for her traveling abroad.
The ending scene, the Bon Voyage party for Cleo ends with her white friend Police Captain Lou Crawford (Dan Frazer who has a very extensive acting portfolio with the likes of “Kojak”, “Law & Order”, and “As The World Turns”) saying “Lawful On” while holding up a clinched fist (dim power price) as Cleo drives off into the sunset for her next vast assignment. His actions amaze the other party people and is a priceless ending that should leave a smile on your face to go with this contented ending.
The disconsolate news of Tamara Dobson’s death in October 2006 smothered the flames of my nostalgic dreams of her reprising the Cleo role for a third time (second time circa 1975, “Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold”) . All biographical accounts document Tamara Dobson as having studied fashion at the Maryland Institute College of Arts before her professional modeling career. Her acting career included film appearances in “Norman… Is That You? “, “Chained Heat”, “Reach Relieve, Charleston Blue”, “Kill at the World Series”, “Jason of Star Jabber”, and “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century”. Beyonce appears to have paid homage to “Cleopatra Jones” when she played Foxxy Cleopatra in the Austin Powers movie.
Tamara Dobson’s role as Cleo was a hit and this movie is a classic that would add value to any so-called blaxploitation (Soul Cinema) era movie collection.

This indicate is simply fantastic. All seasons of it are wonderfully done. I started watching this reveal only recently and became so addicted that I bought all of the seasons on dvd. My husband, in-laws and brother-in-law are all now addicted to it as well. I can’t wait for this season to be released on dvd and for the next season to launch! I usually don’t glimpse tv shows during the season, I typically wait until the season is over and the dvd’s are released, but I unprejudiced haven’t been able to wait for season 6, I’ve actually been watching it on tv (and then on my laptop while at work!!)
The cast works so well together. The dynamics of the the characters – the best I’ve seen since Firefly. The device they appreciate each other as a family, search for out for each other, rip on each other, joke around, work so flawlessly. This is by far the BEST crime explain procedural I’ve ever seen. It’s actually very believable. I mean, besides having to solve a crime in such a short time frame.

Some might mediate this movie prurient, while to others it will seem sweetly nostalgic. Anyone who is looking at this review will already know that 9 Songs is noted for its full-on sex scenes. Lisa (Margot Stilley) is an American, obviously from what is called a “sterling family”, curvaceously slim, statuesque (about two inches taller than Matt), educated, and unserious about both her relationship with Matt and her job. As for her “job”, though we don’t peep distinguished of it at all, it’s obviously impartial a time-marking “playing about with typewriters and latchkeys and calling it work”, as EM Forster called the occupations of upper middle class twenty-somethings who receive regular checks from the family support home. Apart from Antarctica, there’s not a lot more than performances by bands like the Dandy Warhols, Shapely Furry Animals, and so forth. Nine songs sung in really fun-looking London venues, to be loyal, and, of course, the distinguished scenes of the couple making care for. The lovemaking is more inferred than depicted ofttimes, but taken as a whole one would doubt that there is even a square centimetre of the protagonists’ anatomies that is not unmistakably displayed in all its glory for all the world to discover in this movie. You watch, this film is not only about memory, and what a guy remembers about a relationship with a woman he has loved (which guys being who they are, is mostly the perceived high points, like going to shows and making like), but 9 Songs also seems to be an extended metaphor for the Shamanic quest, which in the waste requires union with the mysterious Beloved other, the mythological dakini, who both enlivens and kills her lover simultaneously and then simply disappears into the sky, and leaves tedious (there’s that word, memory, again) as her gift a precious, elusive realization of the ugly-beautiful reality of things-as-they-are.
With that in mind, glance this movie. It’s not really about sex.

too “humorous” in its first version. Ray Carney’s Cassavetes on Cassavetes has
hundreds of similar anecdotes by the filmmaker. It’s a perfect introduction to
Husbands. It’s anything but a simple comedy. The characters are as unpredictable
as valid people and the situations as hard to figure out as stuff in steady life.

Husbands gets you all mixed up. Are these guys idiots or inspired? Are they
jerks or pursuing a dream? Cassavetes doesn’t want it to be too distinct or too
easy to understand. He doesn’t want us to laugh off the serious questions. He
talks about that in Carney’s book, but it’s definite from the film itself. This
film should be required viewing for all men, so maybe they can originate to
understand themselves, and it should be required viewing for all women so that
they can start to understand the men in their lives. It’s!
not an easy thing to understand, which is why Cassavetes doesn’t build the movie
easy for us to understand, but the more times you notice it, the more you will notice.

This is an excruciating, frustrating, painful comedy of men, and astounding in retrospect. Cassavetes was an authentic cinematic genius of American film, regardless of the philistine like comments I’ve seen in these reviews. What I don’t undertand is why they haven’t made it available on DVD. Are they restoring it? Are there upright tie-ups? What? I’ve only ever seen it in pieces on television. I would care for to be able to interrogate fully, without commerical interruption or deletion….

Loved the movie, It’s a dinky different to peer the Duke in civilian atire as a investigator on the hunt for the people who took out not only cops but a beneficial freind as well . One of the highlights for me was seeing the early 70’s Trans Am that the Duke was driving ripping up the streets of Seattle, mountainous looking car for the era. Another thing that I noticed was no profane language in the movie, quite refreshing and delectable for anyone to search for who likes action movies and the Duke.
I saw this record at the theater with my brother when it first came out. I’ll admit that on the surface John Wayne playing a tough, renegade, “Dirty Harry” style cop may be a bit far-fetched, but hey, it’s John Wayne…few could ever match his conceal presence so you honest obtain it as a glowing enthralling cop action film. There’s certainly some “Bullitt” influence as well with the car chases and Wayne driving a Trans Am.

Wayne is Lon McQ whose partner turns out was alive to in some dirty doings and is killed because of it. The supporting cast is rounded out with Diana Muldauer and Clu Gulager.
The film is punctuated by what is actually a number of superior (for the era) action sequences climaxed by an auto creep and shootout with Duke wielding an automatic weapon on a beach in what really is an keen scene. One can certainly argue that all of the main actors including Wayne, Albert, and Dewhurst were a bit too long in the tooth for the roles they are playing but so what. It’s quiet an delicious film with Wayne, even at 67 years feeble displaying the macho toughness that had made in a sizable star for over 40 years. Dated but fun!

I am peturbed that Amazon would spotlight two awful reviews. This was an awesome movie that kept me watching it from beginning to waste. I haven’t read the book, but after watching that movie, I do intend to. It’s unbelievable how uplifting this engaging movie was. Diane Lane was supurb without coming across as trying too distinguished. We never pick up to perceive her husband “Tom” who screwed her over royally in the divorce, which I assume was a suited decision. The movie stays in the prove looking ahead to the future with a sense of hope and promise. Occupy up this movie for an honorable movie night – even if you’re not a chick!
What starts out as an Italian “Money Pit” with all the attendant broken pipes, crumbling walls and incompetent handymen makes a turn for the better about a third of the device through: a more emotionally centered and revealing movie,”Under the Tuscan Sun.”

The luminescent Diane Lane stars as Frances, an knowing, loving women with halt and committed friends who finds herself in a plot that many people do: with a mate who has fallen out of treasure, wants a divorce as well as possession of a remarkable loved and painstakingly renovated house, this one in San Francisco. After the divorce Frances goes to Tuscany on a lark, falls in adore with a villa there, buys it and proceeds to renovate it. There are some humorous area lines and performances that I wish weren’t, but with a central performance as ravishing and genuinely loving and feminine as Lane’s, “Under The Tuscan Sun” is as warm and keen as bread fair out of the oven.

The video has exiguous in accepted with some of the jacked-up, overly hot presentations of older films we’ve seen in high-def formats. The colors, though muted by gain, feel lush and just to the theatrical vision. The experience is that of watching tantalizing images on film, not television or DVD. High-def has rarely delivered the comely audio we heard about when the formats first hit the market, but here it is. The rear soundstage doesn’t sound subordinated: when the audio engineers send a jolt to a specific, discrete speaker, the result is mighty and definite. The percussive sounds of gunfire are unlike anything I’ve heard on disc or in theaters. Some soft-spoken dialogue sounded indistinct or muffled from the center channel, but given the overall quality this is likely in the recent elements.

Flesh tones are factual, but only on close-ups do you salvage that film-like definition. All that computer-land metal looks astounding; piquant with three-dimensional pop. When necessary colors demolish through the algae-green atmospherics, they radiate but without the annoying signs of artificial boost.
“The Matrix” was the first DVD title to sell more than a million copies befriend in the open era. This position probably won’t be a breakthrough for high-def, but it most certainly is a milestone in quality. The spot is available only in HD DVD. Blu-ray Disc versions of both collections will be released later this year.

I really would’ve liked to have gotten the Animatrix shorts in HD as well but sometimes you have to buy what they give you. If you are fervent in the filmmaking process and want to know every itsy-bitsy detail about what went into creating the Matrix films, then you might as well win this residence up because it has something like thirty-five hours of issue that will retain even the most die hard Matrix enthusiast busy for days. It’s the kind of package that most will not salvage to execute in it’s entirety due to the sheer amount of articulate.
I’m a bit disappointed that the state isn’t completely in HD (again, the choice to indicate the Animatrix in standard def is objective mind boggling) but that’s about the only complaint I have. I’m honest tickled that the Matrix Trilogy has made it to HD-DVD in pristine quality.
