ORANGE BOWL YOUTH FOOTBALL ALLIANCE EXPANDS
WITH ADDITION OF THE WEST BOCA TACKLE FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Miami Lakes, FL (www.orangebowl.org) – As one of South Florida’s fastest growing communities continues to expand, so does its need for youth programs. After serving the community for more than 20 years, the Boca Flag Football & Cheerleading Corporation (BFFC) is looking to grow its West Boca Tackle Football League (WBTF), which is entering its third year in 2009, and toward that end has joined the Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance (OBYFA). Under the leadership of Glenn Remler and Dr. Salvatore Romano, the WBTF serves more than 700 youth participants in the area and by joining with OBYFA hopes to continue to grow.
“We have been asked by organizations to join them over the past couple of years, but now that we are joining OBYFA, it’s a great tradition and great for our program,” said Remler, Vice President of the WBTF. “We hope that the kids who participate in our league will one day go onto high school, play college football, and participate in the FedEx Orange Bowl game.”
The purpose of West Boca Tackle Football is to organize and maintain recreational youth football in a competitive atmosphere. Regardless of their weight, height, or playing ability, the West Boca Tackle Football League will give every player an opportunity. The league provides coaches who promote the development of honesty, good fellowship, self-discipline, and team play, which are the basic essentials of good sportsmanship. Making the jump to join the OBYFA was simple since both organizations believe in the same common value – promote and support the growth of youth football and cheerleading throughout South Florida.
“You can see the excitement that’s being generated in West Boca,” said Jose A. Regalado, Youth Sports Manager of the Orange Bowl Committee. “The WBTF is growing its tackle football program while also preserving their flag football initiative. In the end, we both want what is best for South Florida’s youth and that means getting them involved athletically as well as academically.”
With registration already underway, the growing league continues to welcome all athletes from West Boca and surrounding communities for its upcoming season, which runs from August 10 through November 14. The WBTF, which plays its games at Olympic Heights High School and West Boca High School, is made up of 9-14 year olds spread out over 14 teams.
“If a child desires to play tackle football, we make sure as a board that our coaches teach the fundamentals of tackle football,” added Remler. “By following our philosophy as a league, we have seen many players participate on their local high school football teams. For those that don’t pursue high school sports, we hope this is an alternative opportunity to play a great game!”
Anyone interested in joining the West Boca Tackle Football League should contact Glenn Remler at (561) 376-6486 or by visiting the league’s website at www.westbocatacklefootball.com. You can also email the league at glenn@westbocatacklefootball.com. Registration will continue through August 6th. Parents should bring a copy of their child’s birth certificate, color photo, current physical, and school report card.

Entering its 11th season, the Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance (OBYFA) is home to more than 17,000 youth football players and cheerleaders in South Florida. The OBYFA consists of nine member leagues in eight South Florida counties including Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Monroe, Martin, St. Lucie, Collier and Lee. Since its inception, the OBC has provided direct and in-kind contributions to OBYFA member leagues totaling more than $4 million in youth sports in South Florida.
For more information on the Orange Bowl Youth Football or any of its member leagues, please contact Youth Sports Manager Jose Regalado at (305) 341-4709 or yflkids@orangebowl.org. Keep up with the OBYFA at www.orangebowl.org, the official website of the Orange Bowl Committee.
